History & Facilities

ISOI is located on 23+ acres on the outskirts of Islamabad. The campus includes Elementary School, Middle School, and High School quads, a gymnasium, an auditorium, an open-air theater, a physical education center, an indoor climbing wall, tennis courts, a track, playing fields, a 25 meter swimming pool, two libraries, two technology centers and a cafeteria. Classrooms have air purifiers to help safeguard student health. Students, staff and their families have access to plenty of green spaces for outdoor classes, family recreation and quiet contemplation.

The School is proud to have served the diplomatic, expatriate and local community for over 55 years. ISOI has a long history of innovation and leadership among international schools. ISOI piloted the NESA Virtual School project, which has now become the World Virtual School. The School was among participating schools in the NESA regions for a three year pilot conducted by NWEA. NWEA® is a research-based, not-for-profit organization that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that precisely measure growth and proficiency for MAP (Measure of Academic Progress).

ISOI continues its strong tradition of Strategic Planning. The School developed tools to assess soft skills such as intellectual curiosity and global citizenship in order to improve student growth in these areas. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools asked that ISOI copywright these rubrics for use by other schools within the MSA accreditation umbrella.

A forward look – ISOI has been invited to use Sustaining Excellence Protocol for the School’s next accreditation. “Schools invited to use the Sustaining Excellence Protocol must have strong evidence that it is and has been effective in growing, improving, and/or sustaining student performance, especially in academics over time.” MSA-CESS.org
